chae dong ha K-pop singer Chae Dong-ha, 30, was found dead yesterday, an apparent suicide three years after his high-flying career crashed.According to police, Chae’s manger called the police yesterday morning after finding the singer hanged at his home in Bulgwang-dong, Eunpyeong district, northern Seoul.Police said they found a large amount of antidepressants when they searched Chae’s house, but not a suicide note. WS Entertainment, Chae’s entertainment agency, was unavailable for confirmation of Chae’s mental state.Chae debuted as a solo singer in 2002 and in 2004 joined the three-member boy band S.G. Wannabe. (S.G. stood for Simon and Garfunkel, the American singing duo.) The group, with Chae as its leader, received rave reviews for its powerful vocals and dominated music charts and industry awards. In January 2008, when the group was at the height of its popularity, Chae suddenly announced his departure. The official reason for his split from the group was that Chae wanted to try a different genre of music, but rumors said he was kicked out.

Chae came back as a solo singer in November 2009, but failed to gain back his old glory. Along with the failure of two albums, Chae’s former manager committed suicide in 2009K-pop singers have come forward to paid tribute to Chae. Singer Song Ho-beom wrote yesterday, “I feel sorry for him because I know how hard it is to be forgotten [by the public] and that’s one thing that makes this job hard.”
