gvA week ago, it appeared the Great Valley girls lacrosse team might just have what it takes to bring home the hardware from a run at a state title. Visions of a rematch with Downingtown East in the District 1 finals, the only team to beat the Pats in the regular season, danced in the heads of lacrosse fans for weeks. But over the course of the past few games, questions have arisen as to what direction the Patriots are actually headed.
The chance to meet the Cougars and inflict a little revenge was dashed TuesdThe last three district games have been a nightmare for one of the best teams in the state during the regular season. After beating Strath Haven handily in the first round, the Pats blew a huge lead in the second round and had to hold on to beat Boyertown. That was followed by the losses to Garnet and Springfield. "We've given up 45 goals in the last three games, and I coach the defense," Tornetta said. "Obviously, I'm not doing a very good job of it." Ali Karwoski got the Patriots on the board to start things with a goal at 21:27. Springfield's Maddy Lynch picked up the ball after the ensuing draw, raced to the goal and scored to make it 1-1 only 11 seconds later.
The Pats built a 3-2 advantage after that thanks to Karwoski (20:48) and Caitlin Kratzer (18:49). The teams traded goals to make it 4-3 before Cougar Aly Gormley tied the game 4-4 when she beat GV goalie Jenna Morris. Like the Garnet Valley game, things went south from there as the Patriots would never have the lead again for the remainder of the night. Springfield scored three straight times to close out the first half for a 7-4 lead at the break.ay when Great Valley lost to Garnet Valley in the District 1 semi-final. Thursday night, the Patriots failed to nail down the third spot in the district when, ironically, they lost to the Cougars of Springfield Delaware County, 15-9, at West Chester East's Zimmerman Stadium.
