rcb vs miAfter the most runs in an IPL event in the first over EVER RCB 46/0 in 3 overs
And the match has begun with Royal Challengers Bangalore hammering the ball like their lives depend on it. For the first three quarters of their first qualifying round match against the Chennai Super Kings, it seemed as if Royal Challengers Bangalore were in the driving seat and on their way to the IPL final. However, as it turned out, Suresh Raina and friends didn’t quite see things that way, pulling off an astonishing comeback to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, sending the Royal Challengers tumbling into a second play-off match.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians are probably thinking they shouldn’t be in this match either. They looked set to finish in the top two of the IPL for much of the season only to crash to three successive defeats at the end and almost lose out on the play-offs completely. However, Mumbai appear to be back on track, convincingly beating Shane Warne’s Rajasthan and then Kolkata in their last league match before ending the hopes of Kolkata altogether in the 1st eliminator match of the play-offs. They’ll be hoping that momentum is enough to carry them straight through today’s play-off, with a place in the final against Chennai the prize awaiting today’s victors. Team News Batting has never been an issue for Royal Challengers Bangalore, and the emergence of the sensational Chris Gayle, who is only 5 runs behind Virat Kohli in the battle for the orange cap, reinforced the view that they have one of the best batting orders in the league at present. Even when they lost Gayle early on against Chennai in the last match, Bangalore managed to reach an impressive 175, which underlines their prowess at the stumps. For Banglore, it is the bowling department where questions are being asked – star man Vetorri is clearly being affected by his fitness problems, while the pace men have been giving up a serious amount of runs while getting those wickets.
One bright spot has been Sreenath Aravind, whose 17 wickets and 14.1 strike rate have more often than not carried the rest of his team mates. Bangalore have been let down by the likes of Zaheer Khan however; though he can be devastating on his day he has rarely showed that kind of form this season. Similarly, Abhimanyu Mithun has also struggled, leaking over 9 runs an over and without taking many wickets in the process. Bangalore may well be tempted in this match to give a game to Charl Langeveldt. Langeveldt can be excellent on his day, but if he gets the nod then Luke Pomersbach will surely not be needed, which may present an opportunity for Asad Prathan to fill in for him. Mumbai Indians raced out of the blocks this season, setting an electric pace at the top of the IPL, brushing aside anything that their opponents could throw at them. With five games to go, Mumbai were everybody’s favorites to finish top of the league and for many, they seemed set to go all the way to the final and win.
