terrelle pryor

terrelle pryorWith the resignation of Jim Tressel as Ohio State’s coach on Monday and mounting doubts about Terrelle Pryor’s future in Columbus, many have wondered what Pryor’s value would be if the NFL held the Supplemental Draft. The league still plans on going ahead with it if any players apply (so far none have). Last year’s Supplemental Draft was held on July 15 where four players were eligible and two were selected, both in the seventh round. Once again to review the rules if a team takes a player in the Supplemental Draft, they forfeit their pick in the corresponding round of the regular draft the next year. In 2006 the Bengals took Ahmad Brooks in the third round of the Supplemental, which meant they didn’t have a third rounder in ’07.

The five OSU players who were suspended for the first five games of the upcoming season could apply for the Supplemental Draft since their case presents “unique circumstances that have occurred since January, when they would have had the chance to apply for draft the first time. According to NFL Draft Scout’s Rob Rang, here are the early projections for the OSU five if they were to apply for the Supplemental Draft: Pryor and RB Dan Herron 5th-6th round, OT Mike Adams 4th-5th round, WR Devier Posey 5th round, DE Solomon Thomas undrafted. Supplemental grades are typically two-three rounds lower because teams are hesitant of surrendering picks for the following year. For the Bengals, the two that should garner the most consideration are Adams and Herron, especially if you can get them in the fifth or lower. Adams is thought to be a solid run blocker but needs to continue to develop as a pass blocker because he is a little stiff and lacks foot technique. Herron lacks size but is a good between the tackles back who can get the tough yards. When it comes to Pryor.

Rang compares him to San Diego WR Vincent Jackson because he believes that Pryor can transition better there compared to quarterback or tight end. Said Rang: “I, personally, am lower on Pryor’s ability to transition to the NFL as a quarterback than our ranking indicates. I’d place a 4th-5th round grade on him as a quarterback and a 3rd round grade on him as an athlete. I do believe he has the acceleration, size and body control to potentially convert to receiver, though his straight-line speed would obviously factor into his final grade.” However Rang also shares the same view as m
