tnpscThe Confederation of Tamilnadu Medical Workers urged the government to bring the 108 Ambulance service under its complete control and fill all vacancies in the health department. To draw government attention, the Confederation said it will stage a demonstration on 19 July. Among other demands the Confederation wanted drivers, first aid staff, its call center employees to be made permanent, job opportunities in all government hospitals for paramedical technicians and permanent jobs for all the pharmacists and lab technicians with government hospitals working as temporary staff for about eight years. The confederation also wanted special TNPSC examinations to make all temporary doctors as permanent staff, and age limit for pharmacists belonging to the forward community to be relaxed to help them join government jobs. With A.M.Kobu as its honorary president, Dr G R Ravindranath as its president, Tamilnadu Medical Workers Confederation has been formed newly combining various associations of health workers.

The Confederation passed resolutions stressing the demands at its conference, which was held on Sunday in Chennai. A resolution asked the government to take complete control of the 108 ambulance service from EMRI.Explaining some of their demands, Ravindranath said that unless the TNPSC conducts special examination and temporary doctors are made permanent, they could not join P.G. courses in the quota system. After being made permanent, they have to serve for 2 years. Thereby, they are eligible to get P.G. admissions under the 25 per cent quota system. He further said, “All vacancies in the health department should be filled. There are around 40,000 people, who completed pharma related courses but they are without jobs. However, more technicians, lab assistants, pharmacists are required in government hospitals”.
