not to be getting married at all. The real problem is not that young people are getting divorced, but that far too many of them are getting married – and for all the wrong reasons. Here then is my bit of entirely unsolicited advice to the young ‘uns contemplating matrimony. A handy-dandy list of five signs you ought not to get married – or will almost certainly end up divorced. One, it’s just time, what to do? You’re 27 and loving the single life. But your parents are starting to nag, and friends are tripping down the aisle. And you think: Why the hell not, right? Wrong! Getting married is no longer a rite of passage – something you just do at a certain age
. Besides, that little ‘passage’ leads directly to a life of adjusting, settling down and what not. So, if you think 30 is the new 20, stay single. Two, mommy and daddy made me do it. Do you plan to stay married just to make your parents happy? No? Okay, do you expect your parents’ support if you ever decide – god forbid! – to get divorced? Great. Then they can learn to be just as supportive of your decision to remain unhitched. Sure, people will talk if you don’t get married, but they will talk more about your sordid, messy divorce. Spare yourself, your parents and that unfortunate soul you plan to marry. Just say no!
