robert redford The Sundance Institute’s held their first-ever Los Angeles benefit last night; “Celebrate Sundance Institute.” Founder of the Sundance Institute Robert Redford gave a moving speech during the event which honored Michelle Satter. The “Celebrate Sundance Institute” event also attracted a celebrity guest list as well as raised much needed funds for the non-profit which celebrates the importance of independent artists and groundbreaking screen and stage plays. Darren Aronofsky regarding the work of Michelle Satter: “Michelle has always had the most-sensitive ear and heart-warming words. Her early encouragements made me feel invincible.” Aronofsky’s quote was shown during a short film reflecting on Satter’s career. Debra Granik also had a quote featured in the film regarding Satter’s celebrated career: “By holding dear and cultivating stories that come from ordinary life and from lived experience, Michelle has made room for neo-realism and humility in American film culture. And all the film makers she encouraged to = the Sundance Institute Board of Trustees, Sundance Alumni Advisory and the Celebration Host Committee which included Jennifer Aniston. Guests at the event were treated to a cocktail hour, seated dinner, speeches by Sundance board members including Robert Redford who honored Michelle Satter and a special performance by “Fitz and The Tantrums.” Michelle Satter was honored during the event for her thirty years of creative, groundbreaking and influential work as a Director of the Feature Film Program.
