The next day a teacher slipped on that oil, and broke his arm. Administrators asked the responsible students to come forward, and ended up suspending 25 of them, but only one won't be able to participate in the graduation ceremony. "A lot of them admitted to it, but I heard Zack Jones took the most responsibility, so he got the worst punishment. Morally, that doesn't sound right to me," according to Marcy. Las Plumas Parent Darlene Lawson agrees. "His punishment is extreme. I feel like he's being made an example of, however it's the wrong example because he didn't do what they're accusing him of doing." Burton says the wrong person is taking the fall. "It's really unfair because the other girl who actually did the spray painting and stuff, they actually found out she did it. It was proven, a couple of people saw her and she still gets to walk."

Lawson says when her daughter talked with the superintendent about the mistake he refused to listen. "My daughter has a lip piercing, and he basically told her that she's a teenager and can't be trusted." Now students are showing their support for Zack by writing encouraging messages on their cars, something teachers have told them to take off. "Some students we're asked to remove the decorations from their cars, cause it was disrespectful. I think that's bull because we're supporting our friend who did the right thing," according to Marcy.

As for Lawson, her ideal resolution would be "for Zack to be able to walk, and the superintendent to be looked at for discriminating against the teenagers. I don't think a superintendent in charge of many children should be prejudice a
