yellowA recent survey conducted by the research firm Burke on behalf of the Local Search Association reveals that when it comes to local searches, more people are still inclined to use the old standby, the Yellow Pages. Now before I get to the findings of the survey, it needs to be pointed out that the Local Search Association is the new name of the Yellow Pages Association, so perhaps these findings should be taken with a grain of salt or two.
But be that as it may, the survey, which was conducted over a 12-month period and involved 8,000 consumers, did reveal some very interesting things when it comes to people searching for products and services on a local level…76% used a search engine78% consulted a print directory (Yellow pages & white pages)68% referred to a store circular, promotional email, or coupon57% consulted Internet Yellow Pages32% used a social networking siteIt needs to be pointed out that the study combined the print and online versions of the Yellow Pages into one category. Had they been separated, Search Engines would have been at the top of the chart.
